In its relatively short history, the company, its technology and its management have all received several prestigious awards. Here are few of the awards and recognitions received:
Heliatek has won the GreenTec Award in the “Production” category. Heliatek won the award for its innovative, vacuum roll-to-roll production process used to manufacture HeliaFilm®, an organic solar film applied mainly on building façades.
The GreenTec Awards are among the most important European environmental and business prizes. Since 2008, innovative products and technologies with a focus towards a more environmentally friendly future have been selected and recognized in several categories.
OE-A Competition - Best new Product
Heliatek and SVK won the “Best New Product” category at the 2016 OE-A competition.
With this award, the Organic and Printed Electronics Association (OE-A) recognizes innovative concepts and products illustrating the various possibilities for the application of organic and printed electronics. The products and demonstrators were showcased at the LOPEC 2016, the international trade fair and conference for printed electronics, in Munich, Germany.
Renewable Energy Design Award 2015
At the Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards ceremony in London, Heliatek received the Renewable Energy Design Award 2015.
The prize recognizes the international successes of Heliatek as a clean energy producing, film supplier. “We are delighted to receive this Elektra award. It supports our vision of a decentralized and decarbonized energy supply. It also encourages us to continue to enhance our HeliaFilm® technology as a clean and green source of energy,” commented Thibaud Le Séguillon, CEO of Heliatek GmbH.
Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum
Heliatek was awarded as one of the World Economic Forum’s “technology pioneers 2015”, a selection of the world’s most innovative companies. Heliatek was chosen by a professional jury among hundreds of candidates as one of the 49 selected companies.
The Technology Pioneers were selected from among hundreds of applicants by a selection committee of 68 academics, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and corporate executives. Notable members of the committee include Arianna Huffington (founder, Huffington Post) and Henry Blodget (editor-in-chief, Business Insider). The committee based its decisions on criteria including innovation, potential impact, working prototype, viability and leadership.

In December 2011, Dr. Martin Pfeiffer (CTO and co-founder of Heliatek) and two research colleagues, Prof. Karl Leo (TU Dresden/co-founder of Heliatek) and Dr. Jan Blochwitz-Nimoth (Novaled AG) received the “Deutscher Zukunftspreis” (Prize of the German President for Innovation and Technology). The three scientists were honored with this 250,000 Euro worth prize for their outstanding achievements in the research and development of organic electronics.
Germany, Land of Ideas – Selected Landmark 2012
The Land of Ideas initiative designated Heliatek GmbH a “Selected Landmark 2012″ on October 26, 2012 for its organic solar films. As part of its nationwide competition, “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”, the organisation presents every day an outstanding example of creativity and innovative drive that is focused on preparing Germany for the future.
IDTechEx Materials Award
In April 2012 Heliatek has won the Materials Award by IDTechEx. The IDTechEx Printed Electronics Awards recognize company innovation, success and technology development in the field of printed, organic and flexible electronics. The Materials Award is given to the organization that has made the most significant development in enabling materials technology over the past 24 months.
Ecosummit Award 2012
In March 2012 Heliatek won the silver ECO12 Award. Selected by an expert jury, the prize of €5,000 is awarded to the most promising startups and young companies in the Cleantech sector.
In November 2011 Heliatek and the Institute for Applied Photophysics of TU Dresden were honored with the Technology Transfer Award “wissen.schafft.arbeit” by TU Chemnitz for the cost-effective production of organic solar cells. The award was under the auspices of the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, and came with a prize money of 20.000 Euros.
Global CleanTech 100 Company
In 2011 Heliatek was voted for the third time into a row in the prestigious Global Cleantech 100 list. The Global Cleantech 100 list recognizes the top private companies in the global Clean Technology Industry and is produced by Cleantech Group, a leading research firm focused on global Cleantech innovation, in collaboration with the UK’s Guardian News and Media.
